LANDBACK: THE RECLAMATION OF EVERYTHING STOLEN FROM THE ORIGINAL PEOPLES:

Land, language, ceremony, food, education, housing, healthcare, governance, medicines, kinship: These are the elements of the landback movement, and what it stands to for.

Many people, particularly white settlers on colonized land of Turtle Island, seem to hear ‘landback’ as think of it as tit for tat, that white people would be ethnically cleansed from the United States if the movement were successful. That’s an… interesting interpretation that warrants its own examination, but for the sake of brevity and staying on topic, I invite anyone struggling to let go of this scorched earth definition to see it more like the difference between forcefully settling on stolen land (which is what we’re doing right now) vs. respectful and intentional immigration (which is closer to what we would have been doing if we abided by literally any of the native treaties we agreed to).

Strike where the Iron is Hot

The Landback movement is global, as the plight of all oppressed peoples of the world are connected. At the moment in time that I am writing this, all awakening eyes are on Palestine, a people whose voice and stories I promised to amplify and bear witness to as they face genocide at the hand of my government and its allies. So this is where I am focused as an educator, social critic, and writer, in my own little corner of the internet, for now.

Disability justice for all

No reclamation effort of any flavor of social justice is complete without a foundation of disability advocacy. Currently, COVID19, a ferociously contagious and mass disabling vascular virus that attacks immune cells similarly to HIV/AIDS, is ripping through the worlds populations largely unabated.

As our institutions continue to value capital over people and show themselves to be grossly ineffective at protecting us, we have to take on the responsibility of protecting ourselves and one another. Here are a few resources to help you do that, particularly if you live in the USA.
