Dear friends,
I have very much enjoyed the interactions and access I’ve had with the people I am close to in my life by using Facebook, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to connect with them all in such a way. I will miss the interaction and ease of having so many people in the same place at once online.
Due to privacy concerns, I am no longer maintaining a personal profile on Facebook. A bit more detailed information is included in the comments of this post.
People who have utilized my fan page and personal Facebook profile are highly encouraged to subscribe to the Neevita Mailing List, which I will keep up to date in light of taking a step back from corporate owned social media as a means of community.
Thanks so much for your support. If you find a good alternative, let me know and I’ll follow you.

Hey Lady.
I know you don’t have tons of time, but I think other people have said it better than I can.

http://www.facebook.com/policy.php
Over and over again, Facebook makes excuses to set their user profiles to default settings, which are insecure and dangerous. Often times, there is no communication that this will occur until someone finds out and makes a stink. There is a reason why your friends post so many annoying “Check your privacy settings” statuses.
Moreover, the current reconfiguration of settings leaves me unable to lock my profile down how I want it. Specifically the “Add me as a friend” at Privacy Settings > Contact information which allows “Friends of Friends” to see and send me friends requests (or “Everyone”, which is even worse). Additionally, the inability to control the smattering of data that is now posted to my wall whenever I comment on someone elses profile or agree to attend an event is also unacceptable, and under the new configuration there is no way to change that.
Another issue is the applications and Quizes, probably better explained as the reemergence of the Wild Wild West in terms of internet security.

Additionally, every quiz, game, and Facebook application is written by someone, or a group of someone’s, with an agenda. When you fill out a quiz, or play Mafia wars, or send me a Vampire Kiss, that application has access to my profile information because I am on your friends list. Just because you’re my friend, and you chose to authorize that application, the authors of that application have access to my information, and have no standards that I’ve been able to uncover as to what they can do with that information.
Facebook is useful and convenient, yes. So are the mass produced patties of ground up pieces of 1000 different cows that have been standing ankle deep in their own shit for their entire unnaturally corn-fed lives that you get schlepped when you eat a fast food burger. That doesn’t make it honest or particularly desirable in the long run.
The market is determined by what we demand. I have asked Facebook to take my privacy seriously, and they haven’t. So, they no longer get my information. It’s as simple as that.
